Language Matters

The wife & I were in Berlin for a weekend break recently. It’s a wonderful city and very highly recommended. We were discussing our plans for our short time there, and I suggested we walk through the Tiergarten, to the Brandenburg Gate, perhaps then to the art market on the banks of the Spree, and we could take in other historical locations as well.

My wife looked at me like I had two heads. It transpired that the cause of her consternation was not so much the journey or destinations not sounding appealing, but simply because she’d not looked at the part of the map I had, and was unfamiliar with the names. However, at the time, being reasonably sure I do, in fact, have but one head, I deigned to ask whether or not we shared an ontological basis for understanding our respective morphology. I think at this point my epistemological stance in this regard was put under scrutiny, with a generous use of epithets. To be blunt, I was talking nonsense and was told so.

This mismatch in communication ended up being useful, though. It occurred to me that some of the layout of Berlin is similar enough to the layout of London, a city my wife and I are both a little more familiar with, to use as a handy way of talking about directions. So, instead, we discussed going through the Berlin Hyde Park to the Berlin Marble Arch, then on to the Berlin Oxford Street followed by the, erm, Berlin Churchill War Rooms. Speaking the same language as each other did the trick and our stay was fantastisch. We saw the sights, ate the Currywurst, and drank the Pils.

What on earth, you ask, is this fella rambling on about Berlin and what has it to do with Bathrooms? Well, if you will allow me to shoehorn the tenuous link in to the next few sentences, it’s about making unfamiliar language familiar, and making navigating new territories plain sailing.

That’s why we’ve worked hard to make designing and buying a bathroom with us a clear, straightforward, and dare we say it, enjoyable process. The first step is to book a time for a design consultation in the studio. Then you can have a look at our unique style questionnaire which we’ve put together to show preferences and options in plain language, not dressed up in esoteric trade-talk. We use this to curate meaningful options for you. Then we’ll take the time to understand you, ask clear questions to get to the heart of the matter, then design your room around you. When you are happy with your designs, samples, options, and updates we’ll arrange installation or work with your fitters.
